Accepted formats for Private Video Transfer.
Private Video Transfer is intentionally focused on a short list of common videotape and printed photo formats. This keeps the process simple, discreet, and reliable for adult, private, and sensitive personal media.
What we accept
Private Video Transfer accepts standard consumer videotapes and loose printed photos. If your media is one of the formats listed below, it is likely a good fit for this service.
- Adult, private, discreet, and sensitive videotapes in accepted formats.
- Non-adult videotapes in accepted formats.
- Loose printed photos that can be scanned and returned.
- Orders that can be delivered by USB flash drive, 30-day cloud delivery, and DVD copies for transferred tapes.
Accepted videotape formats
These are the main video formats we handle through Private Video Transfer. There are two broad categories we accept - VHS formats and camcorder formats.
VHS
Standard full-size VHS tapes are accepted, including adult VHS tapes, private home recordings, and non-adult VHS tapes.
VHS-C
Compact VHS-C camcorder tapes are accepted. These are smaller tapes commonly used in older camcorders.
miniDV
miniDV tapes are accepted, including private camcorder footage and discreet personal recordings.
Video8
Video8 camcorder tapes are accepted. These are part of the common 8mm camcorder tape family.
Hi8
Hi8 camcorder tapes are accepted. These are often used for private home video and older camcorder footage.
Digital8
Digital8 tapes are accepted, along with other standard 8mm camcorder formats when compatible.
Printed photos
Private Video Transfer also accepts loose printed photos, including sensitive, private, or discreet photo collections.

- Photos can be delivered together with your video files on USB and cloud delivery.
- Photo pricing is $1 per printed photo.
What we do not accept
To keep the service focused and reliable, several formats are not accepted through Private Video Transfer.
- Beta or Betamax tapes.
- PAL or SECAM tapes.
- 3/4" U-Matic tapes.
- Slides or negatives.
- Photo albums, scrapbooks, or oversized photo projects.
- Movie film, including 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm film.

You do not need to know every technical detail before contacting us. If your tape looks like VHS, VHS-C, miniDV, Video8, Hi8, or Digital8, it may be accepted. If you are unsure, ask a private question before shipping.
What you receive
Accepted transfer orders are delivered in practical modern formats.
USB flash drive
Completed digital files are provided on USB flash drive with qualifying orders.
30-day cloud delivery
Cloud delivery is included so files can be downloaded during the delivery window.
DVD copy per tape
Each transferred videotape includes one DVD copy in addition to digital delivery.
